Balloon Race

Saturday, Sept. 28

3 - 5 pm

New Haven City Park

The race begins when the lead “hare” balloon takes off ahead of the pack. Over 20 “hound” balloons then launch in pursuit and fly across the New Haven skies.  The "hare" will lay out a large "X" next to where it lands.   The other balloons (the “hounds") try to follow the "hare" as closely as possible and toss bean bags on the "X."  The pilot that places its bean bag closest to the center of the "X" will be declared the winner.

The Balloon Race is co-sponsored by Backes & Toelke Agri Products, Built by Bloch, Citizens Bank, Edward Jones of New Haven – Jim Stiles, Franklin County Construction, Kuenzel Valley Winery, Larry Hanks Painting and Drywall, Re/Max Balloon Team -  St. Louis/Central Team, Peoples Savings Bank, Save-A-Lot, Re/Max Today, Robller Vineyard Winery, Shelter Insurance - Dave Grannemann and John & Janet Scheible family.

Bring a blanket or some chairs to the park and enjoy as the balloons begin inflating for launch between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., weather permitting.  Refreshments and food are available for purchase.

Park Drive will be closed for both events and spectators are encouraged to park on Lion’s Drive or in the New Haven High School and Municipal Swimming Pool parking lots.
